Samsung Has Launched Its Own Metaverse Store in Decentraland
Samsung has launched its own metaverse store in Decentraland, a metaverse powered by blockchain. In January 2022, the megacorporation made this announcement, explaining that it will be a digital replica of its iconic real-world store in the Meatpacking District in New York. Here’s what you must know about this decision.
The Virtual Store within a Metaverse
The purpose of choosing a virtual replica is to help customers make their purchases in a familiar shop without the worry of COVID-19 restrictions or limitations affecting their buying experience. The virtual store, based on the one at 837 Washington Street in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan, will be accessible in the Decentraland metaverse. Considering the virtual store is based on the real-world store, the name of the digital store is 837X.
It should be noted that the decision to create this virtual store in the metaverse is temporary. Samsung has only taken over the land in Decentraland for a limited time, and it claims that this is one of the biggest brand takeovers of land in this metaverse.
How to Visit the Samsung Metaverse Store in Decentraland
Customers can visit the Samsung metaverse store in Decentraland by first joining this specific metaverse through their internet browser. After the customer logs into an account, they will have an avatar. This avatar will be sent outside the Samsung metaverse structure. The avatar will then have to enter the lobby. At that point, they will be visited by a virtual guide that will lead them to any one of the following three interior rooms:
• Sustainability
• Connection
• Customization
Samsung has claimed that its store will include a “Connectivity Theater and Sustainability Forest.” In addition to that, the “Customization Stage” will include a musical event that customers can enjoy from the comfort of their homes.
What Makes the 837X Store Unique
Samsung has announced that the Samsung metaverse store in Decentraland, 837X, will include the company’s latest range of smart TVs alongside a nonfungible token (NFT) platform integrated into TVs. Thus, there will be an NFT platform app in the following smart TVs (this is not an exhaustive list):
• Neo QLED
• Micro LED
• The Frame
The NFT platform on these TVs will allow customers to be able to buy and trade a variety of digital art as NFTs with other users.
There’s no doubt that an online store is rather different from a virtual store in a metaverse. In the latter, you have an avatar that you can control to move around through an actual store. The idea is to replicate the same in-person buying experience but through a digital medium. Thus, you can still view the products in your own hands as if you were doing the same in person. The Samsung metaverse store in Decentraland is one step in reimaging the buying experience on digital media.
